The nehiyaw ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐤ spirituals are composed by chanting the Cree syllabary giving the listener a feeling of being held in a wepisowin, a traditional baby swing that was denied of many children that were forced to attend residential schools in Canada. Kâkîsimo in nêhiyawêwin, means to pray, chant and plead, an original musical method of nehiyawak that combines prayer and singing. kâkîsimo, a five generational album, honours Cikwes's late kokom in one of the seven nehiyaw spirituals. Cikwes's Kokom passed away from TB when her mother was two years old. In this song she describes her Kokom coming to visit her in a dream, "Nohkom Nipwataw". The four other generations included in this album are her mother’s Cree language guidance, her brother's hand drumming, her daughter's back vocals and the song she wrote for her granddaughter as she made her way into this world, "ka cistomawasohk". Also included in this beautiful Cree language album is a composition for the retention of the Cree sound system, "cahkipehikan ᒐᐦᑭᐯᐦᐃᑲᐣ nikamowin ᓂᑲᒧᐃᐧᐣ". The traditional hand drum in kâkîsimo ᑳᑮᓯᒧᐤ is that of her grandmother and mothers heartbeat. Cikwes’s nehiyaw ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐤ songwriting is an emblem of hope and beauty for the continuation of nêhiyawêwin ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐁᐧᐃᐧᐣ.
